WHAT'S IN YOUR TRUCK TUESDAY: GARY KELLEHER

Regular readers know that "What's In Your Truck Tuesday" was inspired by one of our favorite fun reads, Relish Austin's "What's In Your Fridge Friday," where we learn a bit about local notables, their refrigerator contents, and get a glimpse inside. We discovered Fridge Friday when searching for some Dripping Springs-related news, and a link to Gary Kelleher of Dripping Springs Vodka popped up. We recently had the good fortune to tour the distillery here in Dripping Springs, and while Gary does not drive a truck, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to profile our Fridge Friday inspiration — and, serendipitously, this Tuesday, October 4, happens to be National Vodka Day.

Gary is one of the nicest people you'll meet, as is his wife Dee, who you'll frequently see representing Dripping Springs Vodka at local charity events. As you'll learn on "What's In Your Fridge Friday", this
great-great grandson of a vodka maker for Russian czar Catherine the Great now makes vodka in Dripping Springs, Texas, but what you won't learn on Fridge Friday is what the great-great grandson of the vodka maker for Catherine the Great listens to when driving to Marfa!

What is your job/profession?
Master Distiller of Dripping Springs Texas Vodka.

What is in your "truck" today?
Well, it's really a Toyota Solara convertible with DS VDKA on the license plate. Right now, I've got a suitcase, a smart phone and 7 cases of Dripping Springs Vodka in the trunk along with a few recipe cards and an ice chest.

Other than proof of insurance, what three things are always in your truck?
I always have lots of tunes, a swiss army knife and a glove box filled with miniature bottles of DSV.

What's the most unusual thing you've ever transported in or behind your truck?
A giant replica of a DS Vodka bottle in block of limestone - designed by our neighbor Philip at Carved Stone.

Where's the farthest place you've ever driven your truck?
Fort Worth to Marfa and back - one of the coolest drives in Texas.

What do you listen to in your truck?
Right now it's Steve Earle's new CD, Matraca Berg's new CD and The Essential Louvin Brothers 1955-1964.

Any Dripping-related trivia about yourself?
It doesn't matter where I go - Colorado, New Mexico, Louisiana - I always meet people who tell me that they know Drippin' and wish they lived there. Who knew we were the destination of choice for everyone living in the Southwest?

If you could drive any vehicle other than your truck, what would it be?
I think a real truck. I love my convertible but it's starting to feel a little small.

For this special Truck Tuesday, we take a peek inside the Dripping Springs Vodka distillery!
