HAPPY TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Today, March 2, commemorates the 175th Anniversary of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence, when settlers broke from Mexico to create the Republic of Texas. Until April 21, the document will be on rare public display, along with the William B. Travis letter from the Alamo, two original icons of Texas history, at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in Austin. These two historical documents and other artifacts may be viewed from 8am - 5pm weekdays at the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building. The building is located at 1201 Brazos St., across from the East entrance to the State Capitol.
