FALL FEST ON SATURDAY!
As we may have mentioned once or twice before, as kiddoes we were Little House On the Prairie devotees, which may account for our affection for the Dr. Pound Pioneer Farmstead. On Saturday from 10:00AM - 4:00PM, kids and adults can spend a day playing in the 1800s when Fall Fest takes over the grounds of the historical museum in Founders Park. Fall Fest celebrates life as it was on the pioneer farm in the late 19th century and is one of the area’s largest and liveliest educational opportunities for families and history enthusiasts. Kids can experience first-hand games and activities enjoyed by pioneer children, such as rolling hoops, shooting marbles, and dipping candles. They can write lessons on slate tablets in the one-room schoolhouse re-creation. In the shade of ancient live oak trees, 40 craftspeople will demonstrate heritage skills such as spinning, rug weaving, soap making, flint knapping, blacksmithing, gourd decorating, and jelly making. As in past years, festival goers can enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, Civil War and cowboy re-enactors, story-telling, a silent auction featuring handcrafted artisan items, tours of the farmstead’s original dog-trot house by docents in period dress, as well as barbeque, homemade pound cake, coffee, ice cream and kettle corn. Adults and kids can dress like pioneers for the day by stepping into Sarah’s Closet costume rental on the festival grounds. An 1800s-era fashion show will be staged along with a readers’ theater production of a Laura Ingalls Wilder-inspired play that welcomes audience participation. Fiddlers playing traditional pioneer tunes (and some popular newer ones) will complete the authentic scene
All proceeds from the annual Festival are used for ongoing restoration and maintenance of the 1850s home and farm of Dripping Springs’ founding family. For more information call (512) 858-2030. The Museum is located at the back of Founders Park on RR12 (1/2 mile north of Hwy 290).

Couldn't keep those rascally pioneer kids out of the back of the feed store (just down past Oleson's Mercantile)! Kids just want to have fun whether 1850 or 2010. Photo from last year's Fall Fest courtesy Dr. Pound Pioneer Farmstead.
