DRIPPING HISTORY: A MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR MAKES HISTORY
Despite the September heat, a standing-room-only crowd of history enthusiasts gathered in Dripping Springs Sunday afternoon for A Magical History Tour, hosted by The Heritage Circle, an auxiliary of the Friends of the Pound House Foundation.More than 100 attendees were regaled with tales of yore by local historian/author 'Coach' Carl Waits. The event, a walking tour of Mercer Street, began with a definitive look at the city's first academy-turned-Old Masonic Lodge. Local long-time Mason Johnny Hudson narrated. The afternoon was capped off with refreshments on the lawn and a tour of one of the city's original homesteads, the Marshall-Chapman House, recently reinvented as a bed and breakfast inn, Homestead at the Dripping Springs. Charles Haydon, who owns the home and whose family has lived in the home over the years, shared the secrets of this historic treasure with the walkers.
For those who missed the tour, check out Carl Waits' book, The Complete History of Dripping Springs, Texas. The book is available at the Dripping Springs Community Library and for sale from the author himself (858-4540) or at the DS Chamber. Cost is $40 plus tax.
