THE RAGING PEDERNALES (OR WHAT A DIFFERENCE RAIN MAKES)

Reader Paula Boyer sent in this photo of the Pedernales River taken yesterday at 5pm. Paula recalls in the summer of 2009 you could walk across the river — mostly exposed rock and a hop across a 3 foot trickle of water. Yesterday the Pedernales was raging and, she reports, the roar was so loud you could hear it from the parking lot. She assures she stayed on the overlook, very far from the banks, from where she snapped this photo.
