DRIPPING SPRINGS FARMERS MARKET ON SATURDAY
The Dripping Springs Farmers Market is on Saturday from 9:00AM - Noon at The Triangle (RR 12 and 290). The market will continue every Saturday until November 20. This Saturday's market promises a new salsa vendor and live music. Marianne at Onion Creek Farm let us know that along with the last of the summer tomatoes (and a note that her fall tomato plants are coming along nicely), she will have basil and farm fresh eggs. And it will be an okra abbondanza! Marianne has an abundance of okra and expressed some doubt as to how much okra people can eat. We ask who wouldn't want to eat plenty of this storied member of the mallow family discovered around Ethiopia during 12 B.C. and cultivated by the ancient Egyptians. Okra flourished throughout North Africa and the Middle East where the seed pods were cooked eaten, and the seeds toasted, ground, and served as a coffee substitute. Okra is a powerhouse of valuable nutrients, a good source of Vitamin C, low in calories and fat-free (until our mom rolls it in cornmeal and fries it, but mama mia is it good!). Marianne has posted an abundance of okra recipes on her website from grilled to fried to stewed to baked. Get your okra on here .
