SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION SCRAMBLES AND SWAPS

When we were mere Babblettes living in Holland we attended the American School of the Hague. Buses would come to the various little villages and neighborhoods surrounding the Hague to pick up students of all grades, then all buses would converge in one centrally located parking lot and what was called "the scramble" would then ensue. From this point you would get off your neighborhood bus and run (we mean scramble!) to the bus that would take you to the correct school (elementary, middle, or high school). As young Americans in a foreign country there was no way were going to miss that bus! At the end of the day, it was a reverse scramble to get back home. Somehow we always made it to school and back home (although we did, admittedly, have some fell-asleep-on-the-bus close calls).

When school starts for Dripping Springs ISD on Monday, secondary students will find themselves in new surroundings as the high school and middle school campuses “swap” locations from previous years. Traffic pattern maps for student drop-off and pick-up, bus routes and parking for those campuses have been posted on the individual school websites, which are linked through the district website at dsisd.txed.net. Traffic flow at Walnut Springs Elementary also will be modified; information will be available on the WSE website this week and distributed to parents at Meet the Teacher Night August 19.

For bus riders (shout out to the bus riders!), the DSISD Transportation Department is sending letters with information on bus stop locations and times. Parents also can access this information, as well as guidelines for bus behavior, on the Transportation Department section of the DSISD website or by calling the Transportation Department at (512) 858-3004.
