CLIMB YOUR FAMILY TREE ON THURSDAY AT THE DS LIBRARY

There are a few spaces still available for the Online Genealogy Resources workshop hosted by the Dripping Springs Community Library on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 5:30PM. The one hour session promises a great introduction to the best of online resources, and will be taught by one of the most experienced amateur genealogists in the Central Texas area.

Presenter Laurie Mahaffey is the Deputy Director of the Central Texas Library System, a full-time librarian, and knowledgeable genealogist. Laurie earned her  BA in Geography and her Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Texas at Austin. She has been a professional librarian for 35 years, and interested in genealogy since she first read the "begats" in her grandmother's Bible as a child.

Laurie is also a 5th or 7th generation Texan, depending on whether one counts the first ancestor to walk into Texas or the first one born in Texas. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. On the other side of her family, Laurie is the granddaughter of immigrants through Ellis Island in 1905. Whatever your ancestor search, whether long-time American or fairly new citizen, she can empathize.

The library notes that this is a hands-on workshop and reservations are encouraged they would like to have ready a workshop packet for every participant. Contact the library at (512) 858-7825.
