DRIPPING SPRINGS FARMERS MARKET ON SATURDAY

Last Saturday's tomatopalooza was a record-breaker for Onion Creek Farm. Farmer Marianne was out of town taking care of her mother, so for those who showed up to buy all those tomatoes thank you for suffering through our pinch hitting efforts and inability to quickly make correct change before having coffee. The great news is Marianne is back! Dripping is a lucky town to have a farmers' market where we can buy local, organic produce and meet the farmers and ranchers who make it all happen. We have the Onion Creek Farm available produce rundown, below, but there are many vendors at the market. If you haven't come out yet, now is the time to get in the groove! Jo Ann Touchstone with the city is working hard to get out the most complete weekly updates of available produce. Sign up for her updates on the city's farmers' market website here.

Available certified organic produce on Saturday from Onion Creek Farm will include garlic, okra, squash, shallots, tomatoes (heirlooms, slicers, and more), herbs and Red La Soda potatoes. Plus farm fresh, free range eggs. The Dripping Springs Farmers' Market is Saturday from 9:00AM - Noon at The Triangle (RR 12 and 290).

When were mere Babblettes, our family lived in Holland. A weekly treat there was frites mit mayonnaise. After ice skating, our mom would buy us a paper cone of hot, crispy fries topped with mayonnaise. As fellow World Cup watchers know, Holland played in the final last Sunday. While, alas, they lost, the agony of defeat, at least in our house, was eased with these homemade french fries made from Onion Creek Farm's Red La Soda potatoes, making our global experience deliciously local. We have found the secret to a crispy on the outside, tender on the inside homemade fry is a two-fry process. First blanch the fries for a couple of minutes at a slightly lower frying temperature, just until they are barely cooked but still pale. Remove from the oil and drain. Increase the temperature of the oil and return the potatoes for second fry until they are crisp and golden. We ate our World Cup fries with a curry mayonnaise.
