PAWS DOG OF THE WEEK: STEVIE

We know taking care of a dog with medical issues is no small feat. We have one whose unending medicine schedule and unpredictable appetite can leave us feeling drained, but a wag of a tail and a lick on the face and all is well with the world again. Stevie, left, is also a special needs dog. This Miniature Pinscher mix came to PAWS Shelter in pretty bad shape and was diagnosed with diabetes. He is currently on insulin, but getting better everyday. Even though he eats more than plenty, he does have trouble putting on weight due to his health condition. The diabetes has led to the loss of his eyesight, but he still gets around pretty well, he just needs a chance to get accustomed to his surroundings first. But he really just needs to find your lap because he is an affectionate dog who will be content to sit there all day long and keep some loving person company. It takes commitment and a special person to take on a dog like Stevie, but some people were born to the task (and reap the rewards) for caring for those with special needs.

To learn more about Stevie and the other wonderful dogs (and cats) for adoption, call PAWS Tuesday through Saturday at (512) 268-1611or visit the shelter on Tuesdays from 11:00AM - 6:00PM, Wednesday - Saturday from11:00AM- 5:00PM. The current shelter is located at 500 FM150 East in Kyle. Visit the PAWS website at pawsshelter.org

Babble founders have a merry menagerie of rescued dogs, including a couple of darlings from PAWS Animal Shelter, a no-kill shelter. Currently located in Kyle, PAWS is building a new, larger shelter in Dripping Springs because, unfortunately, the homeless animal population continues to grow. We want to help spread the word about the special, smart, and loving dogs and cats now available for adoption
