DRIP TRIP: BLANCO LAVENDER FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND
Dreaming of a trip to Provence but believe it's a bit too far and far too expensive? Au contraire mon frere! We have our own Hill Country Provence just down the road. The Sixth Annual Blanco Lavender Festival is this weekend, June 11 -13, and what says Provence more than lavender? The festival's lavender market is held on the grounds of the Blanco County Courthouse (where the Hollywood directors Joel and Ethan Coen just filmed scenes for the remake of True Grit), and speakers will give lavender-related educational programs at the courthouse. If you've never been to the town square in Blanco, it is a true Texas treasure. Area lavender farms will be open with free admission to the public, and the whole town promises to be participating in the festival, even local restaurants serving lavender-flavored dishes. Get all the lavender lowdown at blancolavenderfest.com. To get to Blanco from Dripping, just take 290 headed toward Johnson City. Just before you get to Henly, take a left on 165. When it dead ends, take a right to head into town. Maps are available on the link, above.
