DRIPPING SPRINGS PLAYDAY BUCKLE SERIES STARTS APRIL 17
The horse riding gene in the family was not passed from this Babbler's mother (some of you may remember our favorite cowgirl from January) to her progeny. When our Paw Paw in Driftwood tried to teach us to ride in hopes the family tradition would pass down, little Babbler and Babbler's little sister both promptly fell off (the latter into a patch of prickly pear). Things didn't improve from there. But we do hold a profound appreciation for those who can ride a horse (and stay on).
For those with an equine inclination, it’s time to saddle-up for the Harrison Ranch Park Playday Buckle Series 2010 sponsored by the City of Dripping Springs and the Harrison Ranch Park Committee. The series kicks off on April 17 with the first of six Playdays. The events consist of competition among horse riders in poles, speed, cloverleaf barrels, flag race, and straightaway. The age groups range from Pee Wee (ages nine and under), Juniors (ages 10-14), Senior Novice Speed (ages 14 and older) and Seniors (ages 25 and older).
Entry forms are available at City Hall in Dripping Springs and online at dswildwestfest.com. Ribbons will be awarded at each Playday and top awards will be made on the final day of competition. Buckles for first place, hay bags for second place and duffel bags for third place, all designed exclusively with the Harrison Ranch Park logo, will be awarded to winners. Riders must compete in at least four of the six Playdays to be eligible for the grand prizes. The dates for all the Playdays are: April 17, May 15, and June 19. July 10, August 14 and September 11. Registration opens at 8:00 AM and competition begins at 9:00 AM each Playday.
Spectators are encouraged to come out to watch the competition and to enjoy the concessions served by the Harrison Ranch Committee. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the day at the park. Harrison Ranch Park is conveniently located at 29401 Ranch Road 12 across from the Dripping Springs Elementary School. All proceeds from the Playay Buckle Series event benefit the new building plans at Harrison Ranch Park.
