BE A PARTNER IN READING SUCCESS - DEADLINE EXTENDED

The Dripping Springs Elementary School and DSES PTA have extended the deadline to be a mentor in the Partners in Reading Success Program (PIRS). Recognizing there are students in the school who need additional help beyond what they receive in the classroom, DSES and the DSES PTA have teamed up to design a reading mentor program to give them the extra boost they need. Modeled after nationally recognized children’s literacy and mentoring programs, PIRS pairs a student and an adult for one-on-one reading together one hour each week. Through PIRS, students will have the opportunity to listen to great stories read by their mentors, to read aloud books at their designated reading level, and to practice their reading strategies in a fun, relaxed environment with a caring adult.  Mentors will help students explore and talk about the books they’ve read and relate them to their own life experiences. As a mentor you need no teaching experience, just the desire to foster a love of reading in a child. Want to help forever change a child's life? The new deadline for joining the program as a mentor is now Monday, April 12. Final orientations are scheduled for April 13 at 8:00AM and 10:45. All mentoring sessions are held at DSES on Friday mornings at 8:00AM, 9:00AM, and 10:00AM.
