PAWS DOG OF THE WEEK: LUCY (REVISITED)

We first featured Lucy, a terrier/pit bull mix, in October. Because some bad people have done some very
bad things, pit bulls and pit bull mixes have received an undeserved
reputation and, so, Lucy who loves to be around people, kids, dogs, and cats remains in a shelter.
Did you know that "pit bull" is not a breed, but a type of dog, just as the words "retriever," "terrier," or "shepherd" describe a certain type of dog, not a breed? In 2000, a woman moved into her new home to find the previous owners had left their pit bull behind. Although aware of all the stereotypes, and a little scared because of them, she still decided to keep the dog. Since then, she has become a pit bull champion. Read her story at a happypitbull.com.
To learn more about sweet Lucy and the other wonderful dogs (and cats) for adoption, visit pawsshelter.org or call PAWS Tuesday through Sunday at 512-268-1611or visit the shelter on Tuesdays from 11:00AM - 6:00PM, Wednesday -Sunday from 11:00AM -5:00PM.The current shelter is located at 500 FM150 East in Kyle.

Babble founders have
a merry menagerie of rescued dogs, including a couple of darlings from
PAWS Animal Shelter, a no-kill shelter. Currently located in Kyle,PAWS
is building a new, larger shelter in Dripping Springs
because, unfortunately, the homeless animal population continues to
grow. We want to help spread the word about the special, smart, and
loving dogs and cats now available for adoption.

I adopted a terrier/pitbull mix (Lily) from a pound 5 years ago and she's absolutely the BEST DOG! She looks very much like Lucy. They are very playful, love to run and are super loyal. My husband and I are expecting our first child in a few months and while we are doing the preliminary baby-adjustment training we would for any breed, we feel very comfortable with our Lily. She's a great guard dog and can certainly give a scary growl to unwanted solicitors- (I find that a plus!). If you can give this energetic breed the love, excercise and training they need then you won't be sorry!
