AMBER'S ANGELS
When we told you about the charity benefit for Amberlyn Fett earlier in November, we mentioned her inspirational work. We didn't go into detail, because we didn't know what the future held for Amberlyn, but she certainly did — a double lung transplant won't slow this Dripping girl down!
As many of you now know, Amberlyn has battled Cystic Fibrosis almost all of her life, and earlier in November she underwent a double lung transplant. Over the course of her 20 years, Amberlyn has spent the majority of her Christmas holidays in the hospital. During one Christmas, she noticed that many of the children in the the pediatric units did not have family with them or any gifts to open. She was particularly concerned with a 5-year old girl who never had any visitors and did not receive any presents during the holiday season. From her hospital bed that Christmas, Amberlyn was inspired to form Amber's Angels, a charitable group created to deliver gift bags to the patients of Dell Children's Hospital. Her first year she made 80 bags that included stuffed animals, candy, coloring books, and crayons. The next year, the hospital asked her to make more bags for the premature infant unit and neo-natal intensive care units; so Amber raised the money for and put together even more bags. Although Amberlyn was admitted to the hospital during Christmas, she made sure the children still received the gift bags.
This year, Amberlyn is running a bit behind on raising money and awareness for the gift bags — undergoing a double lung transplant in November might just do that to you — but she is bound and determined to get together 175 gift bags for the kids this year and she needs your help! Amber's Angels is tax deductible, affiliated with SWCM, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization. Please make any donations payable to SWCM and write 'Amber's Angels' somewhere on your check. You will receive a receipt directly from SWCM as well as Amber's Angels. Mail donations to: P.O. Box 1220, Dripping Springs, TX 78620. Email ambers_angels@yahoo.com and visit www.ambers-angels.org for more information or read Amberlyn's letter here (PDF).
