CHRISTMAS ON MERCER STREET ON DECEMBER 5

As we struggle to resist the urge to decorate, watch Elf, and start listening to Mariah Carey's "All I  Want For Christmas" before Friday, we are not helped in our proper holiday timeline turmoil by this fun press release received from the City:

Christmas on Mercer Street Will Sparkle Again December 5

Feel the magic of Christmas time and experience the 5th Annual Christmas on Mercer Street, a hometown holiday event, on Saturday, December 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in historic downtown Dripping Springs. Admission is free to the public.

Hosted by the City of Dripping Springs and Dripping Springs Lions Club, you will see the downtown area transformed into a winter wonderland of brilliant illumination, holiday sales and live music.

As in years past, the street will be closed off and filled with the sights and sounds of an old-fashioned Christmas. With arts and crafts booths, children’s activities, mouth-watering food and drinks, free music and live entertainment, there is no place better to be with your loved ones.

Live holiday entertainment has been planned for the entire day.  The featured line-up consists of The Kyle Sisters, Carport Casanovas, Jim Halfpenny, and Head to Toe Dance Group. Other area choral groups are expected to make an appearance as well.

Activities for kids include a trackless train ride, Santa Sleigh Rides, and grand appearance by Santa Claus in his Clydesdale-drawn carriage.  There will also be an opportunity to purchase a photo with Santa.

The annual Lighting of the Tree will be held at the Triangle at 6:15 p.m. Christmas carolers representing local churches and schools will serenade with heart-warming, traditional Christmas Carols at the tree lighting ceremony. Representatives of the City of Dripping Springs will announce the winners for the community holiday lighting contest. Awards will be presented to the winners of three contest categories, including residential, commercial and public/ non-profit.

The annual event could not have been possible without the help of major sponsors including Franklin Bank, Wells Fargo and Whit Hanks Properties.
