VETERANS DAY TRIBUTES ON WEDNESDAY
On Wednesday, the Dripping Springs Rotary Club holds its annual Veterans Day Tribute from 6:00PM - 8:00PM and invites the entire community to join in the celebration. The event will be held at Texas Hearing and Service Dogs facility (4925 Bell Springs Rd) where members of the local VFW Post will bring flags and "post colors", and local veterans will be recognized before an evening filled with entertainment including the Hill Country Band showcasing a repertoire of marches and historical war tunes plus much more. Also, Rotarian "top chefs" will prepare dinner for attendees and a lively silent auction will add to the fun. While food tips are welcome, the event and meal are free to the public. For more information call Bonnie Rose at (512) 894-3944 or Karen Ford at (512) 922-8234.Earlier in the day, on the steps of our state's capitol, Dripping Springs High School student Elizabeth Waltz of Mrs. Lacy McHan Folsom's PreAP English class, will read her winning essay on "What Veterans Day Means To Me." Mrs. Folsom recently assigned the essay contest on the subject to her 130 students who, along with hundreds of others from area schools, submitted essays. Hank Beck, a ninth grader in Mrs. Folsom's class won 2nd place and a $200 US Savings Bond while his classmate Elizabeth won 1st place and a $500 US Savings Bond. For her winning finish, Elizabeth will also read her essay on the steps of the capitol to an audience of thousands including congressmen, senators, the governor and other prominent members of the community. Elizabeth will be standing beside her father, a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, as she recites her winning essay and pays tribute to our brave men and women veterans. How impressive is Mrs. Folsom's 9th grade PreAP English class and what an honor for Dripping Springs!
