FALL FEST IS SATURDAY!

If the cooler weather earlier this week didn't get you in an autumnal mood, then Fall Fest will! The good old fashioned good times will be tomorrow, Saturday, from 10:00AM - 4:00PM on the grounds of the Dr. Pound Pioneer Farmstead Museum (from the intersection of 290 & RR 12, take RR 12 north about 1/3 of a mile to Founders Park, follow the road into the park to the end). In addition to the hootenanny outside, if you've never been inside the museum, it is truly a hidden treasure right here in Dripping. As mentioned before, this Babbler was a Little House On the Prairie devotee. As a side note, during peak Little House loving years the Babble family lived in the Netherlands —  American frontier forts were built  in the bedrooms of an old Dutch house on a street named Schout Bij Nacht Doormanlaan in a town called Waasenaar — such is the ocean hopping pull of the pioneer love.

Honestly, Fall Fest should be fun for everyone in the family. Babbler's sister and many others have been working on the grounds all day Friday finishing set up and everyone is very excited. There will be kids' pioneer games and crafts, demonstrators of old time crafts and skills, and museum tours led by the docents in period dress plus historical re-enactments, wagon rides, animal petting area, old-time sorghum pressing, Sarah’s Closet (a costume shop where kids and adults can “dress the period” for the day and be photographed as pioneers) and the Pounds Grounds Café & Confectionary will offer favorite candies and treats, homemade pound cake, coffee and iced coffee (you can even grind your own beans in antique coffee grinders). BBQ plates will be available through a generous donation from the Dripping Springs Cook-Off Club, with net proceeds from the sales going to the museum. Other food vendors will be offering everything from kettle corn and ice cream to lemonade and ice tea to hot dogs and hamburgers.

Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the day including Tony Harrison and Hot Texas, The Hill Country Community Band, the Deer Creek Fiddle Club and Jim Halfpenny
. And, new to the festival, are the Pioneer and American Indian Tex Kits from the Institute of Texan Cultures. Tex Kits are displays which include touchable objects designed to bring the heritage of Texas to life in a personal way. Every half hour, docents from the Institute will make presentations designed to emphasize audience participation. Presentations will begin at 10:30AM and occur every half hour with the last presentation being made at 3:30PM.

Admission is $5 per person, age 4 and under free.
