QUICK DRIP: ONEYDA'S

We received a tip that Oneyda's, a new Mexican food restaurant on RR12 (across from Whit Hank's new Hemisphere Center) has opened. Word is it's family run and a "step above taco hut food but not full restaurant fare". Our tipster thought  it was "definitely a good value, $7.50 gets you a plate of food bigger than you can finish". The owners are reportedly "very nice and trying hard to please and are adding some vegetarian options to the menu. No beer or wine, they want it to be a family atmosphere."

I ate there yesterday and came here to see if you'd mentioned it yet.

I'd say it was WELL ABOVE the review you referenced above.

    Important review caveat:

We all have our tastes in food. Heck, some people IN DRIPPING SPRINGS apparently eat frozen microwave burritos almost across the street from Flores taco stand or they wouldn't have them in the convenience store coolers. Dripping Springs has a Taco Bell, and I hate those. Some people aren't happy unless they go to El Mercado, La Calesa, insert favorite place here...

    My vote:
    VERY NICE PEOPLE.
    Good Service.
Good Food, somewhat limited menu compared to some and more encompassing than a "taco hut", a derisive term I hate, as if you go to REAL MEXICO some of the best food is from little places like this.

Owner is of Honduran extraction and occasional Honduran specials are interesting when on offer.

I give it a thumbs up.

    You be your own judge.

Thank you for your tip about Oneyda's. I stopped by today and tried a couple of tacos. The brisket is especially good. Tomorrow I plan to try one of the lunch plate offerings. The owner, Ana Ortiz, is very welcoming.
