HAYS COUNTY E.S.D. RECEIVES "SAFER" FEDERAL GRANT
Hays County E.S.D. #6 Fire Chief Tim Gothard has announced that the Department
recently received official word that the ESD has been awarded a $975,420 Federal
grant.
The grant was received from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant will assist the Emergency Services District in employing nine new firefighters.
The goal of the SAFER grant is to enhance the ability of the District to attain and maintain 24-hour staffing and to ensure that the community has adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.
These nine firefighters will join the other nine fulltime firefighters and seventy volunteers who protect the citizens living in the 281 square miles around Dripping Springs, Driftwood and Henly, Chief Gothard said.
