DRIPPING BOOKS

by Melanie Cambron

Instantly enveloped by floor-to-ceiling shelves brimming with old books, this Babbler will long remember the awe and wonder experienced upon entering Shakespeare & Company, the legendary bookstore on the Left Bank of the Seine. While we love the romance of the crammed and storied book shop in the shadow of  Notre Dame de Paris, the practicality of  proximity and prices of  the book section of our local Hill Country Senior Citizens Thrift Shop has no passport requirement.

An ocean closer and with no disadvantageous currency exchange rate, the Hill Country Senior Citizens Thrift Shop offers a sea of choices and a suitcase of savings with their current book sale:

Paperbacks are 25 cents each.
Hardcovers are 50 cents each.
Children’s books are just a buck a bag.

These rock bottom prices make it so you can afford as many books as you can carry. If childhood memory serves correctly, we are now fully entrenched in the “Mom, I’m bored” portion of our summer program, and there seems no better way to escape these scorching days than in the pages of a novel surely based in a far cooler, wetter climate.

The incredible selection and bargain prices are perfectly matched by the cheery demeanor of the entirely volunteer staff. At 71 years of age, the self-proclaimed “baby of the bunch” reminded us that all sales proceeds go to support the Hill Country Senior Citizens Activity Center next door. Now that’ll make you feel as cozy as curling up with a good book.

The Hill Country Senior Citizens Thrift Shop is located at 1310 Highway 290 West in Dripping Springs (just across from the Valero/Subway). They are open Monday - Wednesday from 9:00AM - 3:00PM and Thursday - Saturday from 9:00AM - 4:00PM. For more information call (512) 858-4663.
