DRIPPING MONDAY: THE WEEK AHEAD

On Wednesday at 2:00PM, presenter Dave the Tarantula Guy brings spiders live and up close at the Dripping Springs Community Library. Learn more about the spiders that live in the Texas Hill Country and their cousins around the globe. Perfect for the lively and curious animal enthusiasts in your home. Your spidey sense is telling you to go! For more information, call the library at (512) 858-7825. The library is located at 501 Sportsplex.

Also Wednesday, time travel continues at Dr. Pound Pioneer Farmstead.
Kids ages 5-12 can journey back in time with hands-on activities dating to 1860. Every Wednesday from 9:00AM - 11:00AM in July features a new activity and an hour of pioneer games (washer toss, jump rope, sack races, and hoop rolling). Cost is just $5 per child and a responsible adult must stay. Reservations are required as class size is limited. Contact (512) 858-2251 for more information. This Wednesday the activity is corn husk dolls.

You may not know Steve Brooks by name, but you’ve been hearing his songs for years. This Thursday you can hear him live and in person at Thirsty Thursday at 7:00PM at New Life Lutheran Church (120 Frog Pond Lane). His works have been recorded by actor Russell Crowe (One Good Year) and Austin Americana artists like Slaid Cleaves (One Good Year, Everette) and Danny Santos (This Memory of You, Hungry for Love), as well as many others. On Jim Hightower’s late, lamented talk show, he wrote a song-a-week about events in the news. Brooks has written music for two films and appeared in two more, including the 2004 release Barbecue: A Texas Love Story. A master of words as well as music, he was featured on the television show I've Got a Secret as six-time winner of Austin’s O.Henry Pun-Off World Championship. Thirsty Thursday admission is free. For more information contact Nancy Fierstien at (512) 858-2024.
