DRIPPING FRIDAY AND A NOTE ON EL NINO

Reminder that Marianne will have her farm stand from 3:00PM - 6:00PM at Onion Creek Farm today. For a rundown on all the produce, click here. Also, for those who want to buy peppers but just aren't sure what to do with them, check out Dripping Peppers before you go.

If we understood it correctly — in all the giddy chatter we heard yesterday — El Nino has been confirmed. Weather forecasters are predicting wet weather starting in October and lasting until May 2010. If you lived here in 2007, then you know El Nino's reign of rain.
It may feel like a long and hot 3 months until then, but the news yesterday promises eventual relief. Today's reality remains, however, that we are in a historic drought. We received a great response to 6 Free and Easy Tricks to Keep Our Springs Dripping and will have more Babble reader tips next week.

I'm glad there are other weather geeks out there.

We're moving into a neutral phase -- humorously known as "La Nada" -- before El Nino builds. The prospect of above normal rainfall this winter into next spring is certainly great news. But does that mean anyone should consider a future order of St. Augustine sod for that lush lawn that is so coveted? Definitely not. While El Nino brings much needed rain, at some point La Nina will return with the parched dryness that follows. Count on it.
