DRIPPING MONDAY: THE WEEK AHEAD
The first Kids Time Travel at Dr. Pound Pioneer Farmstead kicks off this Wednesday from 9:00AM - 11:00AM. Kids ages 5-12 can journey back in time this summer with hands-on activities dating to 1860. Every Wednesday in July features a new activity and an hour of pioneer games (washer toss, jump rope, sack races, and hoop rolling). Cost is just $5 per child and a responsible adult must stay. Reservations are required as class size is limited. Contact (512) 858-2251. This Wednesday the activity is stitching.
On the heels of its successful debut, the second Dripping Springs Farmers Market happens on Saturday from 9:00AM - 11:00AM (note the hours have changed from the first one). The market is held at The Triangle (at 290 & 12) and is scheduled to be held every first and third Saturdays of the month through October, allowing consumers to purchase directly from, and get a chance to meet, our local farmers and producers. All interested vendors should contact Ashley Seay or City Secretary Jo Ann Touchstone at (512) 858-4725 for additional information.
We've received some emails about Fire in the Sky on the Fourth of July and, as reported last Thursday, we checked in with the Dripping Chamber and confirmed there will be no Fire In the Sky fireworks this year. Given the extreme drought conditions, a wise decision. And, along those lines, local fireworks sellers and suppliers have voluntarily agreed to refrain from selling what are commonly called “sticks and fins” fireworks – skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins – for the upcoming July 4th holiday due to the severe drought conditions. According to the National Fire Protection Association, in 2006 (the most recent year for collected data), fireworks caused an estimated 32,600 reported fires, including 1,700 total structure fires, 600 vehicle fires, and 30,300 outside and other fires. These fires resulted in an estimated 6 civilian deaths, 70 civilian injuries and $34 million in direct property damage.
