DRIPPING FOOD: CORPUS CHRISTI CLAM CHOWDER AND FRESH MEAT

Last night a couple of us attended the outstanding Dinner By the Bite benefit for PAWS at Wilson Appliance and our local chefs threw it down! We have a new Dripping food obsession and it's Creek Road Cafe's Corpus Christi Clam Chowder. Bridging the gap between  red chowder and white chowder (and a debate that the Yanks find so enthralling), the clam- packed chowder brings it home Texas-style with the perfect kick of heat. The chef says CRC serves it fairly regularly and they actually have a list of customers who ask to be notified the next time it's on the menu so they won't miss it. Sign us up!

When we spoke with Fabienne before her food demonstration (adorable with her sous chef in matching plaid aprons), and asked her about the Belgian beef stew they were set to serve at Thyme & Dough last night, she said (read with charming Belgian accent and inflections here) that they switched to coq au vin last minute because Red Barn Beef hadn't butchered the cow yet.
That sort of passion for local, fresh food is exactly as it should be, and we're thankful for it.
