"THE BIG PUSH" FOR REDUCING HAYS COUNTY GROUND-LEVEL OZONE
The Hays County Commissioners Court has announced its pledged to work toward lowering
ground-level ozone in Hays County by joining the Clean Air Force of Central
Texas as a Clean Air Partner. The Court has also approved a resolution
supporting "The Big Push", a regional initiative designed to build on voluntary
efforts already in place to help meet EPA ambient air quality requirements.
While the air quality monitors in Hays County, near San Marcos and Dripping Springs, currently show that Hays County is within EPA guidelines, increasing population growth combined with expected economic development within the county could lower air quality in the future.
Once the County completes the application for admission to the program, the County’s baseline for emissions will be calculated and that will establish the yardstick for determining the County’s success in meeting its goals. The County also plans to work with businesses and other governments to encourage voluntary efforts to reduce emissions and save energy throughout the county.
