PAWS DOG OF THE WEEK: PONCHO
![]() Chihuahua Mix (M) Can't say enough about this dog! Learn more about PAWS at pawsshelter.org. |
Poncho, a Chihuahua mix, was scheduled to be euthanized solely due to overcrowding at an Austin kill shelter and PAWS grabbed him before the deed was done. Because he has a white muzzle which really stands out on his coal black coat (save a handsome white blaze on his chest) he has been regularly passed over at the shelter as being an "old" dog. First of all, there are lots of benefits to "old" dogs (house-trained, no chewing, etc), but Poncho is most likely somewhere around just 6 years old and is chockfull of life. He is house-trained, comes when you call him, gets along great with other dogs (even if they snap at him, he isn't fazed and doesn't engage). He just wants to play a little, then snuggle a little. Give him a bath, and he handles it like a champ. When tossed treats, he catches them and picks up commands very quickly. This dog not only really needs a sweet home, but there is a home out there that really needs this sweet dog. |
