HAYS COUNTY VOTER ADVISORY: THERE IS NO HOMESTEAD AMENDMENT ON THE MAY BALLOT
In response to a number of calls and emails regarding an alleged constitutional
amendment on the May ballot, Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway
reminds voters that there are no statewide constitutional amendments on the May
ballot.
“There was an amendment vote in 2007, but an out-of-date email is circulating again telling voters – especially seniors – that the homestead exemption could change,” Caraway said. “That homestead exemption amendment was passed in 2007 and has been applied to the proper tax accounts. Our office has been getting a lot of panic calls and emails from individuals who are concerned that there is another homestead exemption amendment on the ballot, and there isn’t – it’s a done deal.”
