DRIPPING EVENTS: THIS WEEKEND AND COUNTDOWN TO FOUNDERS DAY

After last week's jam-packed events schedule, this weekend offers something of breather (and, thanks to the rain and softened ground, greater ease in pulling up weeds). Sunday does hold the 5th Annual Brittany Tuck Memorial Scholarship Benefit Concert & BBQ from Noon - 8:00PM at Camp Ben McCulloch (across from Salt Lick). Benefit with BBQ, live music, and more honors the memory of Brittany Tuck while raising money to fund scholarships for athletes graduating from Dripping Springs, Lake Travis, and Dayton high schools. Get all the details at brittanytuck.com.

Looking ahead, hard to believe that Dripping's biggest community event, the 22nd Annual Founders Day Festival, is just over a month away. Held in downtown Dripping Springs April 17, 18 and 19, 2009, the three-day celebration kicks off with the “Grand” parade and includes the Tiger 5K Run, free music and entertainment on two stages, the Mighty Thomas carnival, food, beer, street dances, cook off competitions, over 150 art and crafts booths and business vendors, a petting zoo, pony rides, and the 5th largest washer pitching tournament in the country. Forms to participate in events are posted on the website and a few dates of notes are fast approaching:

March 20: Parade Entry Form must be returned by mail or delivered to City Hall by next Friday.

March 20: Business, arts and crafts vendor booth rental fees are due by next Friday (a late fee is assessed after that day).

April 11 and April 15: Mail-in registrations for the 5K must be received by April 11 and online registration closes April 15 at Noon.

Washer Pitching Tournament: There is no deadline set, but the tournament (the 5th largest in the country!) will be capped at 96 teams, so register soon.

Get downloads and information on the above at foundersdayfestival.com.

Also, the City of Dripping Springs Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host a Hill Country Wine and Beer Tasting Saturday, April 18 at the Founders Day Festival from Noon to 8:00PM on Mercer Street. Sponsoring the event, Carter Investments, will provide a facility with a “dance hall” ambiance across the street from Rippy’s Feed.  The downloadable registration form is available here (PDF). Send your reservation form and payment to City Hall at P.O. Box 384, Dripping Springs, Texas 78620 or drop it off at City Hall, 511 Mercer Street. If you have questions about the tasting, call Ashley Seay at (512) 858-4725.
