AUCTIONING OF PETS FOR CHARITY EVENTS
We recently learned that it has not been an uncommon practice to auction off puppies at local charity benefits (we've apparently been living in a happy rescue-a-shelter-dog bubble). We also understand that we unknowingly may have listed some events that have done this. Moving forward, before listing an event here or on DrippingThings.com, we will ask for confirmation that no pets are being offered as auction items (same for raffles, etc).
For more on why auctioning pets for your charity is a bad idea, visit the Humane Society's site here. The AKC has also adopted the following policy: "The American Kennel Club considers auctions and raffles not to be reasonable and appropriate methods to obtain or transfer dogs." Further, the AKC holds that dogs sold at auctions may be made ineligible for AKC registration.
