THANK YOU, RAIN! THERE IS AN ONION CREEK FARM STAND THIS FRIDAY!
Due to the ongoing drought, Onion Creek Farm Stand has not been able to open on a regular basis, but thanks to Marianne's endless perserverance and the heavens recently delivering us a little rain, the farm stand will be open this Friday from 3:00PM - 6:00PM. Look for the following certified organic produce for sale:
Lettuce (greenleaf and romaine).
Spinach (curly, crispy, rinsed and bagged).
Swiss Chard (beautiful and hearty). Marianne notes it's delicious sauteed with onions and garlic in olive oil. And she put some in her white bean soup this week, yum! After her last farm stand earlier this month, this Babbler made a curried chard soup that was rich and delicious and the most gorgeous dark green.
Beets (bigger this week thanks to the rain and the tops are beautiful). An unqualified beet nut, I cut and roast the beets to toss in a salad with goat cheese (Pure Luck) and walnuts (or pecans, whatever is on hand), and dress with a simple balsamic vinaigrette. That is, when not eating the roasted beets like candy. Discarding nothing, I also roughly chop the beautiful tops and a la Marianne, saute with onions and garlic in olive oil.
Kale (a few bunches, the pretty Red Russian variety)
Radishes
Cilantro
Arugula
Marianne further reports she'll have dozens of fresh eggs. Her 11 month old Red Star hens are really starting to lay nice eggs, now that the days are longer
Additionally, she'll have Red Barn Beef from her neighbor. Ground beef, ground round, a few steaks, will be available this week.
Finally, as promised, she planted lots of the lovely red fingerling potatoes, so here's to praying for more rain!
