DRIPPING SPRINGS WATER SUPPLY CORP AND THE FAKE PRESS RELEASE
On Friday evening we received an odd-looking press release purportedly from Dripping Springs Water Supply Corp. It was on what appeared to be DSWSC letterhead and which said, in a nutshell, DSWSC had raised water rates to pay for a $2 million employment contract for Doug Cones, the utility's manager. The email sender was "DSWSC", the press release was attached as a PDF, and the body of the email that came in as a "DRIP TIP" read as follows:
"Please see attached Press Release.
"Please see attached Press Release.
DSWSC"
There was just something not quite right with the press release, so we put it and our curiosity aside for the weekend. But, thanks to the Hill Country Rambler, we now have insight into what was, per DSWSC, a fake press release. Based on the Rambler's report, it was apparently sent out by local realtor Bruce Turbow.
DSWSC confirms that a 10 year employment contract for Cones was approved, but that rates were not increased to cover the compensation. Get the full, strange story here, including what Turbow has to say about it.
