DRIPPING BOOKS: A NEW LIBRARY CARD RESOLUTION
We try to avoid New Year resolutions as they only seem to set us up for failure. Swear off meat? Our resolve stumbles, falters, and collapses into a juicy, medium-rare, cheese-oozing burger hot off the griddle by day two. But we did make one resolution for 2009 that would not makes us feel deprived, only enriched. And we met that resolution yesterday.
Shamefully, while we have extolled the virtures of the Dripping Springs Community Library, and even promoted and attended events at the library, we did not hold a library card.
If you have a particular book in mind, the library's informative website allows you to search for a particular book and notes how many copies the library has and how many are currently checked out. If you set up a very simple online account (just card number and phone number), you can reserve the book. If the book you're looking for isn't in the Dripping Springs' catalog, there is an inter-library loan form on the website that allows you to fill out a form and our library will try and track it down and order it.
With our new library card we were allowed to check out 2 books yesterday (which we did), but once we return those, moving forward, we can check out up to 10 books each time. And we will.

Yesterday, after a lovely lunch at Rolling in Thyme & Dough, we took a left, instead of our usual right, and changed that. Just off 290, and just down Sportsplex Road (between Oak Creek Cafe and Main Street Market & Deli), sits a lovely stone building nestled beneath a cluster of shade trees. Upon entering the quiet sanctuary, obtaining a card took no more than 5 minutes. Filled out the form with name and address, and the friendly librarian said to feel free to browse and she would bring the card when it was ready. Magazines, paperbacks, books, more books, movie DVDs, music CDs. All we imagined and more. Comfy wingbacks are tucked into nooks and crannies around the library, allowing readers to take a moment, and a load off, with a book. The separate, bright, cheery, and surprisingly large children's wing brought back happy memories of storytime. |

Thank you for your nice words. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, comfortable environment to enjoy. We also provide a listening station and a modest, but growing DVD collection. Once you've logged into your account, you can do research using extensive databases. We have a reference librarian available online from our website M-F 3-6pm. You can even leave a message. >_<
We hope to see you soon!

Thanks DS Babble! I read DS Babble daily for news about my hometown. Thanks for making this morning extra fun. May you find even more ways to enjoy using your new library card as time goes by.
